On February 25, Reading voters will go to the polls to vote to renovate and restore the aging Reading Memorial High School.
Citizens who want more information about the current conditions at the High School and details of the project have several options available to them. Frank Orlando, RMHS Principal will host a tour of the facility on Saturday, February 8 at 9:00 a.m. Residents will have the chance to get up close and personal with some of the problems at the facility and to have questions about the building and the proposed solution answered. To help him plan more effectively for the tour, Orlando requests that residents phone the school at 781-944-8200 if they will be attending.
Another option is viewing the film created by Ken Tucci that is airing on RCTV-Channel 9. Tucci is a Reading Town Meeting member who works as a producer for CBS in Boston. His independently produced film vividly captures the existing conditions at the high school and explores the impact of these conditions on students and teachers. The film, titled "Vote Yes for RMHS", will be shown several times a day until February 25. Check the RCTV listings for viewing times.
Two Reading families will open their homes to host informational coffees on Thursday February 6, and Friday February 7, at 7:30 p.m. Voters who would like more information are welcome to ask questions, look at the high school plans, and speak with a member of the School Building Committee. Call Eileen O'Shea at 781-942-2704 or Lori Vinciguerra at 781-944-1745 for the locations of these question and answer sessions.
A fourth option for learning more about the high school project is to visit the Building Pride website at www.buildingpride.org. Here you will find pictures of current conditions, the plans for the proposed renovations, answers to frequently asked questions, a sample ballot for the February 25 election, and more. The site is updated regularly with new information.
