Church & Society Projects

Habitat for Humanity, Lowell, MA

The members of the Administration Board have approved the motion made that Old South United Methodist become a Covenant Church for Habitat for Humanity. As a Covenant Church, Old South will support the efforts of Habitat through prayer, regular work teams and a yearly financial contribution to this ministry.

You may sign up to be part of a work team or to help out with providing lunches for the workers at the site. We meet on the 4th Saturdayof each month. The hours are approximately 8-3 and workers need to be at least 16 years old. The Lowell site is complete and we are now working at 150 Baker Ave in Concord MA. If you have questions about Habitat or ideas you wish to share please contact John Montrone at 978-762-8323.

Lazarus House, Lawrence, MA

The Church and Society Commission sponsors service opportunities to the Lazarus House in Lawrence. The shelter has 30 beds, and 7 cribs, and most of the rooms are taken by families. Families come to the shelter for a variety of reasons-evictions, abusive situations, fires, etc. The shelter serves daily meals to the residents. Volunteers are needed to help with food preparation or serving anytime, but especially any morning from 6:30-7:30 or lunchtime on Wednesdays and Fridays. Food can be prepared at the kitchen in the shelter or prepared elsewhere and delivered. In addition, Lazarus House has a  thrift shop that also needs volunteers to help sort, clean and organize items in the shop. If you would like to help in any way, call the church for information on how to get involved.
