Boston Harbor Islands Regatta 2006

The Blue Angel participated in the second annual Boston Harbor Islands Regatta on September 30th, 2006. The event was run by the Boston Harbor Islands Partnership. The race course is shown to the right, and was a unique figure 8 around the islands, designed as a pursuit race, where the start times handle the corrections, and the finish times are the final results. The crew included Ralph, Lori, Natalie, Paige and Logan.

The weather was excellent and over 100 yachts entered the competetition. The race ended with a cookout on George's Island.

An article with a color picture appeared in the Boston Herald on October 1, 2006. I saved this because the Blue Angel is the leftmost boat in this image with the white and blue spinnaker!

A gallery of my photos is available, taken during and after the race.

Also, Wavelength Studios was out taking over 800 excellent pictures and their website shows the Blue Angel in these photos on their nicely organized site:

The Blue Angel sailed in the spinnaker class this year, and finished the race easily, as the course was shortened and the wind came up half-way along. However, since she's a sturdy old-school design, she only gets ahead when the wind is up. She and placed 52 of 52 in the spinnaker class (yep, that's last!) since the winds were so light during much of the race (that's our story and we're sticking with it). The race results are listed in detail below as provided by the Race Committee.
