Reading Memorial High School Museum
The Reading Memorial High School in Reading Massachusetts has a long history and now that it is undergoing extensive rennovation the time to preserve artifacts has become a pressing need. This museum manages a collection that was gathered in the last days before the demolition of the oldest buildings.
With the permission of the School Superintendent and the Town Manager, and the assistance of the Reading Historical Commission, the project is moving forward. The idea to create this museum was conceived by Ralph L. Vinciguerra. An explanation of why he did this is available.
It is our hope that a display case in the new RMHS "main street" area will be created to house some of these artifacts to allow students, staff and visitors to the school view historical artifacts from the original school building.
When the artifacts were gathered, most of the room contents had been cleared. We worked with an eye for preserving architectural elements where possible, and in addition, some educational materials were also gathered. Not all these items may appeal to all "museum attendees" but we did try to gather a wide range of items to may appeal to people whose involvement in the school spans from student to staff to administration.
Note: The following sections are under development and only show a small fraction of the collection. Stay tuned.
